DIY (Do it Yourself) Feng Shui

Posted on 05 January 2011

I love the art and science of feng shui. And if you’re a DIY-do it yourselfer, you will probably love it too 🙂 DIY Feng shui means that you do things in your home that allow new and positive energy to flow through your home making sure it is balanced and harmonious. Us homemakers and housewives and do-it yourself-ers are all about that, aren’t we?

So, how do you “do the do” in DIY Feng Shui? How do you actually get your home to be balanced? Harmonious? You’ll start by doing things like re-arranging the furniture, clearing up clutter, and making space for new energy to flow.

(For my Jewish readers, by the way, if you’re not sure how feng shui relates to Judaism and if it is Kosher- go on to read this posting here:

When I was interested in learning more about diy feng shui and feng shui cures for the home, I read two phenomenal books. One was Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui and the second also written by Karen Kingston called Creating Sacred Space With Feng Shui: Learn the Art of Space Clearing and Bring New Energy into Your Life.

As a Professional organizer, I cannot recommend these books enough because not only do they teach you the concept of Feng shui, they combine Feng Shui with Clutter which is the first No-No in feng shui. (By the way, I’m recommending you download books whenever possible on your Kindle)

If you needed ANOTHER reason to declutter your interiors, study the art of feng shui because once you find out how much energy is stuck in the muck of your clutter, you’ll want to light a match to it quick!

Read the books I recommended- they’re a fast read and if you start implementing some of the feng shui “cures” in there, you’ll definitely see a shift in energy in your home.

Here’s an example: If you walk by a painting and every time you look at it you remember the awful person that gave it to you, you are just going to keep experiencing negativity around it and that may grow to negativity around larger things. Only surround yourself with objects that make you feel happy or glad. Not mad or sad. Feng Shui was one of the inspirations in my Organize, Shmorganize, DECORganize book. You can download it free at this link! Enjoy!
