Here’s How It All Started

My name is Rivka Slatkin. I started Jewish-life-organized.com as a way to collect my own research on getting organized and share it with others. I am AMAZED by the overwhelmingly positive response that Jewish-life-organized.com has been getting and I never expected the site to create such a stir.

It all started when my husband asked me to make Pesach and never having done it before, I flipped out! You see, I didn’t exactly grow up with calm, fond memories of Pesach. My mother is a liberal feminist and I didn’t get the “fond” fuzzy feelings of laundry, cooking, cleaning, baking, and shopping to say the least. It was more of a panic and anxious time.

I really had a hard time with it all and others couldn’t understand what was just so hard for me.

So being the hardworker that I am, I set myself on a mission so I could actually keep the house up and feel good about it.

Little by little, I began to try methods of Jewish homemaking. Some worked, some didn’t work. For example, cooking in large quantities and freezing worked. Doing the laundry on set days every week did not work. Baking challah for me did not work. My husband loves to do it.

Along the way I took notes. I had documents on my computer called “Pesach Plan” and “Purim Plan”. Charts and notes about when I needed to do what.

I condensed all of my information and started following the plans before each Yom Tov. Yom Tov got easier and easier.

I started giving my plans out to friends and put them on the web for others to share and print out easily.

Other people started finding my website and asking me for help with organizing. I had no idea that when I put my plans up for sale for $47, people would be grabbing them “off the shelf”!
